Psycholinguistics : What's It?

Psycholinguistics explores the relationship between the human mind and language; insight into the way in which the configuration of the mind shapes communication.

Goals:
  • to establish an understanding of the processes which underlie the system we call language.
  • to examine language as a product of the human mind and thus as evidence of the way in which human beings organise their thoughts and impose patterns upon their experiences.
Psycho linguistic research falls into six major areas, some of which overlap:
  1. Language processing, relating to how our mind works in listening, speaking, reading and writing process.
  2. Language storage and access, relating to how our mind manage our grammatical process.
  3. Comprehension theory, relating to how our mind make us understand a new thing and relates it with the old memories.
  4. Language and the brain, relating to what neurological and muscular activities involvedin speaking and reading process.
  5. Language in exceptional circumstances, relating to how our mind works in ones have speaking or listening problems.
  6. First language acquisition, relating to how the infants get their languange. (Some linguists separate this one in to another dicipline because it is too large if it's in psychology)

Semoga membantu^_^
