HIJABERS
STYLE AS A SYAR’I WAY TO BE FASHIONABLE
(?)
“Be syar’i and fashionable
with Hijab” is a common sentence which often become a tag line in many media
like television, magazine, tabloid, and many more which at least make a public
opinion that the way Hijabers Style exampled is a really safe way to get dressed especially for muslimah. Furthermore, it makes using hijab
becomes a phenomenon in fashion by becoming a trend in Indonesia signing with
there are so many hijabers community nowadays. It is true that there are so
many positive thing are made by this phenomenon such using veil or hijab is not
an old-fashioned any more that many muslimah
are attracted to use Hijab and covering clothes. Moreover, if it’s seen from
financial sectors, of course it will be really profitable because it will make
so many people especially muslimah
buy many updated hijab like pashmina,
and syahrini abaya. Then, if we
compare this phenomenon which make muslimah
get veiled with the condition before, it will also be better. We can say “At
least there is an improvement”. While it is true that make people decide to use
Hijab and make it as a trend are great success of the Hijabers style, in this
case by using syar’i and hijab term, there is problem with the essence of the
terms itself . The
problem is there is people assumption that the way of Hijabers Style exampled
in using hijab is totally a syar’i
way to get dressed, but actually not.
First, it more seems that be fashionable is the priority and be syar’i is a following necessity because the hijab
which people assume as a syar’i hijab
is not the real syar’i hijab actually.
If we analyze how young and also old muslimah
use hijab, we will see that although actually their hijab is long or large, their
hijab do not cover their breasts and have camel hump hairstyle which actually
are not allowed in Islam. In Islam, hijab as a syar’i one should cover their breast according to the 31st
verse of An-Nur sura: “…and remain putting their head coverings over their
bosoms…”, and using camel hump
hairstyle is also forbidden according to At-Thabrani Al-Mujamusshaghir: 232,
In the end of my people there will be women dressing but (actually) be
naked. On the top of their head (there is something) like camel hump. Curse
them because actually they are cursed women.
In this case,
“like camel hump” is interpreted as they make their head look bigger by using
veil or shawl or something else which is rolled on top of the head so it looks
like camel hump. In another word, Al Maaziri said, it may that they are so
prurient to see men so they don’t take her stare and head down. While there are
the other interpretations, this interpretation is the most used.
Furthermore, most of muslimah
be focus on the veil only, not about the dresses or jilbab. If we observe muslimah in our campus, many of them who
categorized as the Hijabers, their “hijabers style” is only seen by their veil,
not their complete outlook. Many
hijabers wear tiny pant or t-shirt, even though when they try cover their body,
they wear transparent clothes which actually is the same as don’t wear anything
(being naked). That’s not syar’i because according to HR. Imam Muslim H.R. Al-Baihaqi
II/234-235), using the transparent and tiny
clothes which show or draw our body is basically the same as being naked.
While it is not all of what hijabers,
they who get dressed by following hijabers style, wear is wrong, generally in
the fact what they wear is not the syar’i one. Even though it can be a reason
that the change cannot be perfect at once, actually Allah have said “O People of Faith! enter into Islam as a whole and do
not follow the footsteps of Satan (devil); no doubt, he is your
open enemy” Al-Baqarah :208, and give us
an absolute answer in the 36th verse of Al-Ahzab sura:
“And it is not befitting to a Muslim
man or Muslim woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed something that
they would have any choice in their matters, and whoever disobeys Allah and His
Messenger, he undoubtedly, has strayed away manifestly.”
Thus, based on many reasons, I totally disagree if hijabers style is
called as a syar’i way; it is
exaggerating for me.
